Promises:Eric Clapton.
Album - The Cream of Eric Clapton - 1987.

[Verse 1]

G
I don't care if you never come home,
C
I don't mind if you just..keep on
G
rolling away on a distant sea,
      D G
cause I don't love you and you don't love me.

[Verse 2]

G
You cause a commotion when you come to town,
C
give 'em a smile and they melt.
        G
And the lovers and friends are all good and fine,
    D G
but I don't like yours and you don't like mine.

G C G D
La la..la la la la la.
G C G D G
La la..la la la la la.

[Verse 3]

G
I don't care what you do with your nights,
    C
oh, I don't care how you get your delights..
          G
I'll just leave you alone, I'll just let it be,
  D G G7
I don't love you and you don't love me.

[CHORUS]

C G
I got a problem..can you relate?
Am7 G
I got a woman..calling love hate.
C G
We made a vow..we'd always be friends.
Am7 G
How could we know that promises end?

G C G D
La la..la la la la la.
G C G D G
La la..la la la la la.

[Verse 4]

G
I tried to love you for years upon years,
C
you used to take me for real.
     G
It's time you saw what I want you to see
         D G G7
that I'd still love you if you'd just love me.

[CHORUS]

C G
I got a problem..can you relate?
Am7 G
I got a woman..calling love hate.
C G
We made a vow..we'd always be friends.
Am7 G
How could we know that promises end?

Pretty good chord. I capo'd on the 3rd and added a D7 after ever single D and it sounds solid.

Verse
G,C,G,D then I add an F# note on the last beat of the D. This leads really nicely into the G and mimics the bass run that happens on the recording.

Over the "la laaaaa la la la la laaaaa" part I play:
C, Em, D

Then there's a nice fill which is:
E: 10-10-10
B: 10-(h)-12 12-10
G: 12

You can play this fill lower down too (which fits easier if you're playing solo):
D: 0-0-0
A: 0(h)2 2(p)0
E: 3
