ANNABELLE (Gillian Welch)
Track 2 from "REVIVAL" (Almo, AMSD-80006)

[Verse 1]

Am F
We lease twenty acres and one Ginny mule
E7 Am
From the Alabama trust
Am F
For half of the cotton and a third of the corn
E7 Am
We get a handful of dust

[Chorus]

    F C G Am
We cannot have all things to please us, no matter how we try
     F C G Am F C G Am F E7 Am
Until we've all gone to Jesus, we can only wonder why

[Verse 2]
(same as verse 1)

I had a daughter called her Annabelle
She's the apple of my eye
Tried to give her something like I never had
Didn't want to ever hear her cry

[Chorus]

    F C G Am
We cannot have all things to please us, no matter how we try
     F C G Am F C G Am F E7 Am
Until we've all gone to Jesus, we can only wonder why

[Verse 3]
(same as verse 1)

When I'm dead and buried I'll take a hard life of tears
From every day I've ever known
Anna's in the churchyard she got no life at all
She only got these words on a stone

[Chorus]

    F C G Am
We cannot have all things to please us, no matter how we try
     F C G Am F C G Am F E7 Am
Until we've all gone to Jesus, we can only wonder why

i play this song tuned down 5 bars and use a capo.
For me it works nice in second or third fret.

Definitely on the capo... a lot of the sound comes from David's absolutely-incredible archtop guitar. diepuppenmoerder has a cool idea with further detuning. beauty with these songs is you can capo them wherever to get them to work with your voice, but defintiely play it in an "Em" shape if you want to get the fills correct (à la David Rawlings in the recording)
