About this tab version
This version is designed for solo acoustic guitar playing. It contains the chords, the partial voicing suggestions, and the partial tabs. Was this info helpful? Yes No
Strumming
There is no strumming pattern for this song yet. and get +5 IQ
(This is designed to be played on an acoustic guitar with capo way up on the 8th.)
(Capo on 8th gives a couple of advantages.)
(First your guitar would produce cute glockenspiel-like sound)
(that would counter well with the relatively low vocal register of the song.)
(Secondly, playing in D would provide opportunities to utilize open strings)
(for bass runs and double stops to embellish the playing.)
(If your vocal range is high enough, I suggest you play with no capo.)
(Chord voicing and arpeggio patterns at the bottom.)

[Intro]
D D/C# D/B A
D D/C# D/B A

[Verse]
D D/C# D/B
Be good is her name and I sing
          A D D/C# D/B A
My lion's song and brush my mane
D D/C# D/B
She would if she could
                   A G F#m A/B B
So she pulled my lion's tail and cause me pain

[Chorus]
A G#m7-5 Gmmaj7
She said lions are made for cages
F#m7 Fdim7
Just to look at in delight
    G#m7-5 Gmmaj7
You dare not let'em walk around
       F#m7 Asus2
'cause they might just bite
          D D/C#
Does she know what she does
          D/B A D
When she dances around my cage and says her name
    D/C# D/B A
Be good be good

[Verse]
   D D/C#
Be good is her name
D/B A D
I trim my lion's claws and I...
D/C# D/B A
And I cut my mane
      D D/C# D/B
And I would if I could
 A G F#m A/B B
But that woman treats me the same

[Chorus]
         G#m7-5 Gmmaj7 F#m7
She said lions are made for cages
         Fdim7
Just to look at in delight
   G#m7-5 Gmmaj7
You dare not let'em walk around
       F#m7 Asus2
'cause they might just bite

         D D/C# D/B
Does she know what she does
          A D D/C# D/B A
When she dances round my cage

G#m7-5 Gmmaj7 F#m7 Asus2
D D/C# D/B A
D D/C# D/B A

[Verse]
   D D/C# D/B
Be good is her name
A D D/C#
I sing my lion's song
D/B A
Brush my mane

And she would
        D/C# D/B
If she could

And cause me pain

D/B A D D/C# D/B A
When she dances around my cage?

(End of song)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(The intro/verse theme is simple. Play it with the shuffle feel.)
(In this theme, the last A bar is more like a A-Bm-C#m run.)

(You can either play like a bass run:)

  D D/C# D/B A
e|-----2---2---|-----2---2---|-----2---2---|------------|
B|-----3---3---|-----3---3---|-----3---3---|------------|
G|---2---2---2-|---2---2---2-|---2---2---2-|------------|
D|-0-----------|-------------|-------------|------------|
A|-------------|-4-----------|-2-----------|-0---2---4--|
E|-------------|-------------|-------------|------------|

(or you can employ ascending double stops:)

  D D/C# D/B A Bm C#m
e|-----2---2---|-----2---2---|-----2---2---|------------|
B|-----3---3---|-----3---3---|-----3---3---|-2---3---5--|
G|---2---2---2-|---2---2---2-|---2---2---2-|------------|
D|-0-----------|-------------|-------------|------------|
A|-------------|-4-----------|-2-----------|-0---2---4--|
E|-------------|-------------|-------------|------------|

(And here are two voicing suggestions for the tricky chords in the chorus.)

[voicing 1]
 G#m7-5 Gmmaj7 F#m7 Fdim7
e|-----|-----|-----|-----|
B|--3--|--3--|--2--|--0--|
G|--4--|--3--|--2--|--1--|
D|--4--|--4--|--2--|--3--|
A|--x--|--x--|--4--|--x--|
E|--4--|--3--|--2--|--1--|

[voicing 2]
 G#m7-5 Gmmaj7 F#m7 Fdim7
e|--7--|--6--|--5--|--4--|
B|--7--|--7--|--5--|--3--|
G|--7--|--7--|--6--|--4--|
D|--6--|--5--|--4--|--3--|
A|-----|-----|-----|-----|
E|-----|-----|-----|-----|

(When playing with capo on the 8th, the voicing 2 is almost unnecessary.)
(There's nothing wrong with repeating the voicing 1. Just think of 2 as a contingency plan)
(in case of easily bored crowd.)

(There are more than one way to play the B bar right before getting into the chorus.)
(You can just play B throughout, but if you treat it like a B A transition, you could get)
(an interesting segue into the chorus. Here are some suggestions.)

e|-------------| |-----0---2---|
B|-4---2---0---| |-4-----------|
G|-------------| |-------------|
D|-------------| or |-------------| etc.
A|-2---1---0---| |-2---2---2---|
E|-------------| |-------------|

 (Enjoy!)
