CAPO 2

G

                                                              C Cmaj7
I'll tell you how it went and all the time we spent trying to make something of us.
             C Cmaj7
Something we knew but never was.

G
Laid faced down on the bed and spoke in tongues with the dead.
              C Cmaj7
The times you saw me lose my cool:
                C Cmaj7
The stares were blank, the words were cruel…

C C/F# C D
But what if I was the problem the whole time?
              G
Well, I'd beg forgiveness and oblige.
                                G/F#
The ground just opened wide and ate me whole.
C C/F# C D
Why am I so happy I could die?
              G
There were no words to say “goodbye,”

the ground just opened wide and ate you whole.

G

Figured they'd figure out soon they never put a man on the moon.
    C Cmaj7 C Cmaj7
And no one knows the truth, Pete Rose and Babe Ruth…

G
What if you got there to see that it's not what you believed?
            C Cmaj7
No blinding lights or smiling teeth
                       C
I'd tell you "you were wrong all along"
      Cmaj7
you'd tell me that you hate me.

C C/F# C D
But what if I was the problem the whole time?
              G
Well, I'd beg forgiveness and oblige.
                                G/F#
The ground just opened wide and ate me whole.
C C/F# C D
Why am I so happy I could die?
              G
There were no words to say “goodbye,”

the ground just opened wide and ate you whole.

C D
I'm always looking for the answers and wondering why
G G/F# (On "abide", you can do the bass fill with 2-2-2h3 on E) x 2
the rules were ever made for us if we never abide…

C D
I'm always looking for the answers and wondering why
    G x 2
the rules were ever made for us if we never abide…

C D
But what if I was the problem the whole time?
              Em
Well, I'd beg forgiveness and oblige.
    G
The ground just opened wide and ate me whole.
C D
Why am I so happy I could die?
              Em
There were no words to say “goodbye,”
    G
the ground just opened wide

G/F# is the correct name for that chord, C/F# I guess would work, I've never seen it played like that, though. I'd probably play it 200010, it's easier and sounds a little less dissonant to me.

I doubt this is how Have Mercy plays this song, they usually tune to open D, but this sounds good to me, definitely close enough. Far better than the other tab on here. 5 stars!
