COVER ME UP
BY JASON ISBELL, FROM SOUTHEASTERN

INTRO: GUITAR INTERLUDE LIKE 1 LINE OF VERSE
*CAPO 2; KEY OF E

[VERSE 1]

               D G D
A heart on the run, keeps a hand on the gun, it can’t trust anyone
               D G D
I was so sure, what I needed was more, tried to shoot out the sun
                Bm G D
In days when we raged, we flew off the page, such damage was done
              D G D
But I made it through, ‘cause somebody knew, I was meant for someone

[CHORUS 1]

   D G D
So girl leave your boots by the bed we ain’t leavin’ this room
D G D
Someone needs medical help or the magnolia’s bloom
     Em G Bm
It’s cold in this house and I ain’t goin’ out to chop wood
            D G D
So cover me up and know you’re enough to use me for good

[Interlude]

D G D

[VERSE 2]

                      D G D
Put your faith to the test, when I tore off your dress, in Richmond all high
          D G D
I sobered up, and I swore off that stuff, forever this time
                   Bm G D
In the old lovers’ scene, I thought it’d be me, who helped him get home
               D G D
But home was a dream, one I’d never seen, ‘til you came along

[CHORUS 2]

   D G D
So girl hang your dress up to dry, we ain’t leavin’ this room
    D G D
The Percy Priest break’s open wide and the river runs through*
Em G Bm
Carries this house on the stones like a piece of driftwood
         D G D
Cover me up and know you’re enough to use me for good

[CHORUS 1]

         D G D

He plays this in dropped D tuning, but your chords are accurate otherwise. Nice job!

If you move to Capo 1 instead of Capo 2, this is spot on.

Second line of chorus should be:
Til someone needs medical help or the magnolias bloom

The Til at the beginning is a subtle but important difference.
