A7 002020

VERSE
  G Bm
I knew a man Bojangles
         Em (riff)Em7-Em-Em/F#-C
And he'll dance for you
(C) D
  In worn out shoes
 G Bm Em (riff)Em7-Em-Em/F#-C
With silver hair and ragged shirt baggy pants
(C) D
He would do the old soft shoe

Bridge
C Bm
 He would jump so high
B Em-Em7-A7
Jump so hi-igh
A7 D
  Then he lightly touched down

He told me of the time he worked with Minstrel shows
Travelling throughout the south
He spoke with tears of fifteen years
How his dog and he, they would travel about.
But his dog up and died, he up and died
And after twenty years he still grieved

Chorus
Em D
 That's mister Bojangles
Em D
 Calling mister Bojangles
Em D G Bm
Mister Bojangles come back and dance and dance
    Em Riff
And dance please dance

He said "I dance now
At every chance in the Honky Tonks
For my drinks and tips
But most the time I spend
Behind these country bars
You see on I drinks a bit"
Then he shook his head
Oh lord when he shook his head
I could swear I heard someone say please

Chorus
Em D
 That's mister Bojangles
Em D
 Calling mister Bojangles
Em D G Bm
Mister Bojangles come back and dance and dance
    Em Riff
And dance please dance

I’m a Jim Croce fan, i can’t find anything on you tube with him covering it. Jerry Jeff Walker wrote it , Nitty Gritty had the hit with it. Several others covered it. I found Jerry Jeff singing it in 1969 on you tube which is a surprisingly clear video.

If you transpose it to C and play capo 2 you’re in the original key of D.
