G Bm C C - C/B - C/A - G
Ope rator oh could you help me place this call

Am Am/A# Em (to bass run on D chord) D D/C D/B D/A
You see the number on the matchbook is old and faded

G Bm C C - C/B - C/A - G
She's living in L.A. with my best old ex-friend Ray

Am Am/A# Em (to bass run on D chord) D D/C D/B D/A
A guy she said she knew well and sometimes hated

Chorus:
G C G
Isn't that the way they say it goes

              C D
But lets for get all that

     G Am
And give me the number if you can find it

   C Em Bm Am
So I can call just to tell her I'm fine and to show

D7 C G
I've overcome the blow, I've learned to take it well

                Am C
I only wish my words could just convince myself

                      D C G
That it just wasn't real, but that's not the way it feels

G Bm C C - C/B - C/A - G
Oper ator oh could you help me place this call

Am Am/A# Em (to bass run on D chord) D D/C D/B D/A
Cause I can't read the number that you just gave me

G Bm C (to bass run) C - C/B - C/A - G
There's something in my eye, you know it happens every time

Am Am/A# Em (to bass run on D chord) D D/C D/B D/A
I think about the love that I thought would save me

CHORUS

G Bm C C - C/B - C/A - G
Oper ator let's for get about this call

Am Am/A# Em (to bass run on D chord) D D/C D/B D/A
There's no one there I really wanted to talk to

G Bm C (to bass run) C - C/B - C/A - G
Thank you for your time, Cause you've been so much more than kind

Am Am/A# Em (to bass run on D chord) D D/C D/B D/A
You can keep the dime.

CHORUS

I think this is very good , but I wonder if that Am/A# isn't just a Bm, I though it might be B7 for a while. I do think B sounds better than A# in the bass, not sure whats on the record.
