Son of A Son of a Sailor
J. Buffett

[Intro]

G F C G

[Verse]
       G
As the son of a son of a sailor
        F C G
I went out on the sea for adventure
  C G
expanding the view of the captain and crew
           D G
like a man just released from indenture

As a dreamer of dreams and a travelin' man,
          F C
I have chalked up many a mile
     C G
Read dozens of books about heroes and crooks,
                  D G
and I've learned much from both of their styles

[Chorus]
F/G C/G G
Son of a son son of a son sn of a con of a sailor
F C G
Son of a gun load the last ton One step a head of the jailer

[Verse]
Now away in the near furture
southeast of disorder
you can shake the hand of the mango man
as he greets you at the border

And the lady she hails from trinidad,
island of the spices
Salt for you meat and cinamon sweet
and the rum if for all you dood vices

[Chorus]
Haul the sheet in as we ride on the wind that our
forefathers harnessed before us

Hear the bells ring as the tide rigging sings.

It's a son of a gun of a chorus

[Verse]
G
When it all ends I can't fathom my friends
          F C G
If I knew I might toss out my anchor
   C G
So I'll cruse a long always searching
               D G
for song not a lawyer a thief or a banker

Ending Twice:

[Chorus]
      F/G C/G
but a son of a son son of a son
-- son of a son son of a son
                  G
son of a son of a salior
son of a son of a salior

F C
Son of a gun load the last ton
The sea's in my veins; my tradition remains
                       G
one step ahead of the jailer
I'm just glad I don't live in a trailer

Version 2

Son Of A Son Of A Sailor
========================
By Jimmy Buffett

[Verse]
G
As the son of a son of a sailor
       F C G
I went out on the sea for adventure
  C G
Expanding the view of the captain and crew
       D G
Like a man just released from indenture

     G
As a dreamer of dreams and a traveling man
        F C G
I have chalked up many a mile
     C G
Read dozens of books about heroes and crooks
       D G
And I learned much from both of their styles

[Chorus]

     F C
Son of a son, son of a son
                       G
Son of a son of a sailor
     F C
Son of a gun, load the last ton
                           C
One step ahead of the jailer

[Verse]
Now away in the near future
Southeast of disorder
You can shake the hand of the Mango man
As he greets you at the boarder

And the lady she hails from Trinidad
Island of the spices
Salt for your meat and cinnamon sweet
And the rum is for all your good vices

[Chorus]
      F C
Haul the sheet in as we ride on the wind
                                      G
That our forefathers harnessed before us
      F C
Hear the bells ring as the tide ringing sings
                              G
     It's a son of a gun of a chorus

[Verse]
Where it all ends I can't fathom my friends
If I knew I might toss out my anchor
So I'll cruise along always searching for songs
Not a lawyer a thief or a banker

[Chorus]
But the son of a son, son of a son
Son of a son of a sailor
Son of a gun, load the last ton
One step ahead of the jailer
I'm just a son of a son, son of a son
Son of a son of a sailor

         F C
The sea's in my veins, my tradition remains
                                     G
     I'm just glad I don't live in a trailer

If I am correct, the recording on Buffett's greatest hits album entitled "Jimmy Buffett" (yellow background, red lettering) features a guitar playing the chords with a capo on the sixth fret. Thus, take the chords from this post, which are right in terms of the key and progression, capo 6, and play the V-IV-V-I in F# maj. instead of C (C being the key of the post, with the occasional D maj. tossed in). So you would capo 6 and play C#-B-C#-F#, with G# instead of the D. From my playing along, this sounds right with that particular recording if you want to play with the guitar. If you just want to play and sing, pick the key that works for you and use the post's progression.
