                             John Mayer - Clarity (Acoustic)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tabbed by: Xulu

This is the way I play 'Clarity', based on the video of him playing by the windowsill before the telephone ring,
ring, rings.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJ1qp-kdKW4

The percussive slap IMO is similar to that of Stop This Train, Heart of Life etc, something which I
think adds a lot of fluidity to this tab.

This is my first tab, so hopefully you guys find it useful!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuning: Standard

INTRO/VERSE: snatch the chords with thumb, 1st, 2nd, 3rd fingers, then pluck them with the same fingers. I like
to add in the odd slap note here and there, but it's really up to you, and as long as you remain in
time there's not much of a problem

(S = slap down and strike string with nail of 1st finger)

e|--------x--------------x--------------x---------------------------------|

G|--0--0--x----------0---x--------6--6--x--------6----6-------------------|

                                                      S

... and play this as you transition to the pre-chorus
e|--------x--------------x--------------x---------------|
B|--------x--------------x--------0--0--x----------0----|
G|--0--0--x----------0---x--------6--6--x--------6------|

A|--2--2--x----0h2-------x----2---5--5--x--5------------|
E|--3--3--x--3-----------x--------------x---------------|

PRE-CHORUS: let the strings ring for the full sexy effect

  ah-ooo-ooooh ah-ooo-ooooh

D|--5----------x-------x--12-----------x---------x------------------------|
A|-------------x-------x---------------x---------x------------------------|
E|-------------x--3-3--x---------------x--10-10--x------------------------|

CHORUS: here are the chords - strumming should be easy enough to figure out :)

G|---x-------------9-------------2----------------------------------------|
D|--12------------11-------------4----------------------------------------|
A|--10------------ 9-------------2----------------------------------------|
E|------------------------------------------------------------------------|

BRIDGE: I know he doesn't play this in the video, but this is just what I play based on his other acoustic
performances of this song! Keep this section really percussive throughout and don't forget your accents!

e|------------------------------------|
B|------------------------------------|
G|--------14----10----10----10----10--|
D|--14----13----12----10----12----10--| (x3)
A|--12----12----10----13----10----13--|
E|--13----------11----11----11----11--|

then finish off the bridge with...

e|------------|
B|------------|
G|---8-----8--|
D|--10-----8--| (x2)
A|---8----11--|
E|---9-----9--|

PLAY THE CHORUS A FEW MORE TIMES, "ah-ooo-ooooh"-ing TO YOUR HEART'S CONTENT

THEN FINISH ON THE CHORD

e|--5--|
B|--3--|
G|--2--|
D|--4--|
A|--2--|
E|-----|
