Ruby Don't Take Your Love To Town
by Mel Tillis

[Verse 1]

       D A7 Em
You've painted up your lips an rolled and curled your tinted hair.
D D A7
Ruby are you contemplating going out somewhere?
    Em A7 Em
The Shadow on the wall tells me the sun is going down -
    D G G/F# Em (Stop)
Oh Ruby
                        D
Don't Take your love to town

[Verse 2]
(same as verse 1)

Its hard to love a man whose legs are bent and paralysed
And the wants and the needs of a woman your age, Ruby I realize,
But it won't be long i've heard them say until I not around
Oh Ruby
Don't Take your love to town

[Verse 3]

   Em D
It wasn't me that started that old crazy asian war
   Em G A7
But I was proud to go and do my patriotic chore
   Em A7 Em
And yes, it's true that I'm not the man I used to be...
    D G G/F# Em (Stop)
Oh Ruby
                        D
I still need some company.

[Verse 4]
(same as verse 1)

She's leavin' now 'cause I heard the slammin' iof the door
The way I know I've heard it slam one hundred times before
And if I could move I'd get my gun and put her in the ground
Oh Ruby
For god's sake turn around!

I had a weird comment here which I have to retract - not sure what I was thinking or hearing, but now I definitely find Pencom's Version 3 to be the most workable and plus he's the supremely tidiest formatter on all of UG. ;-)

This is the best version but the key is wrong. kenny rogers plays it in C. So the easiest way to have the right chords in order to play along to kenny rogers is to click on transpose -2.

Then the E-minor chords in the verses are actually Em7, i think (except for the first 2 lines of verse 3).

C (F) G7 Dm7
C F G7
Dm7 G7 Dm7
C F F/E Dm C
