Song: Walk on the wild side
Artist: Lou Reed
Composer: Lou Reed
Album: Transformer
Tabbed by DJ
23rd Aug 2016

The song is simple enough played in C,
but the C to F6 isn't as effective as the D to G6.
so here's how Lou usually played it...

Tuning:
To play along with the original recording,
tune down all strings a full tone to
D-G-C-F-A-D (using a chromatic tuner may be helpful)

The chords will then sound in the key of C

Chord shapes are named as if still in standard tuning:
D = xx0232  G6 = 320030   Em = 022000   G = 320033

Here's a video where Lou plays it in D, which he did
in most live performances, so no detuning needed:

[Verse 1]
 D G6
Holly came from Miami, F. L. A.
 D G6
Hitch-hiked her way across the U. S. A.
 D Em
Plucked her eyebrows on the way,
 G Em
Shaved her legs, and then he was a she!

[Chorus]
            D
She says, 'Hey, babe,
                    G6
Take a walk on the wild side,
        D G6
Said, 'Hey, honey, take a walk on the wild side!'

  D G6
Candy came ...from out on the Island,
D G6
In the backroom she was everybody's darling,
 D Em
But she never lost her head,
 G Em
Even when she was giving head!

[Chorus]
            D
She says, 'Hey, babe,
                    G6
Take a walk on the wild side,

Said, 'Hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side!'

[Verse 3]
G6
    And the coloured girls go...
  D
'Doo, da-doo, da-doo, doo, da-doo!
 G6
Doo, da-doo, da-doo, doo, da-doo!
 D
Doo, da-doo, da-doo, doo, da-doo!
 G6
Doo, da-doo, da-doo, doo, da-doo!'

   D
('Doo, da-doo, da-doo, doo, da-doo!
 G6
Doo, da-doo, da-doo, doo, da-doo!
 D
Doo, da-doo, da-doo, doo, da-doo!
 G6 D G6
Doo, da-doo, da-doo, doo, da-doo, do----!')

  D G6
Little Joe never once gave it a - way,
  D G6
Everybody had to pay and pay,
    D Em
A hustle here, and a hustle there,
 G Em
New York City's the place where ...they said...

[Chorus]
  D G6
'Hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side!',
          D G6
I said, 'Hey, Joe, take a walk on the wild side!'

  D G6
Sugar Plum Fairy came and hit the streets,
  D G6
Looking for soul food, and a place to eat,
 D Em
Went to the ...Apollo,
       G Em
You should have seen him go -go -go, they said...

[Chorus]
  D G6
'Hey, sugar, take a walk on the wild side!
          D
I said, 'Hey, babe,
                    G6
Take a walk on the wild side!' Alright!

[Verse 6]
      D G6
||:  /  /  /  /  |  /  /  /  /  :||[x2]

 D G6
Jackie is just ...speeding a - way,
 D G6
Thought she was James Dean for a day,
 D Em
Then, I guess, she had to crash,
 G Em
Valium would have helped that bash!

Take a walk on the wild side!'

Doo, da-doo, da-doo, doo, da-doo!
 G6
Doo, da-doo, da-doo, doo, da-doo!'

  D
('Doo, da-doo, da-doo, doo, da-doo!
 G6
Doo, da-doo, da-doo, doo, da-doo!
