 Verse 1: (0:31)

C
I saw a modest dream
     G
the kind that can’t speak up
     Fsus9
and lost before it’s let out
        G
in the north we hold our tongues

 Chorus 1: (0:46)

          Am G
but down here I believe
          C Am
when you pull your hair back it’s so easy to see
         Am G
this has not been thought through
            C Am
there are things that we’ve done that we cannot undo
            Fsus9 Am (Am)
there are things I can’t hear when we’re telling the truth

 Verses 2 & 3: (1:23)

C
at a table out in bethel
     G
when I was thirteen
     Fsus9
the criminals were saying
       G
liked how I was silent

   C
the cold was the container
          G
for the sparseness of our speech
      Fsus9
the expression in our hands
    G
was all that we’d need

 Chorus 2: (1:53)

          Am G
but down here I believe
        C Am
that I made a big deal with a girl that can’t bleed
       Am G
now I see red and black
    C Am
and evening that kills I want to take it back
   C Am
an evening that kills and I can’t take it back

while there’s nothing to confess
        G
please pay attention

 Chorus 3: (3:47)

        Am G
and I know that it’s brief
             C Am
there’s not nearly enough in one night to have seen
          Am G
what you had in your hand
          C Am
was much more than the gold that I let go to grab

so much more than the gold that I let go to grab

I think there's a little mistake in the second line of the chorus:
Instead of the C while singing "when you pull your..." there should be an Em:

Am G
but down here I believe
Em Am
when you pull your hair back it’s so easy to see

Sound's ok with the original song!
Happy playing...bye

This is one of my favorite MPPA songs, and the tab is very good - sounds right on. I just had another suggestion for the chorus. Instead of a G after the Am I play sort of a modified Em7:

EADGBE
x20030

So something like:

Am Em7
but down here I believe
Em Am
when you pull your hair back it’s so easy to see
Am Em7
this has not been thought through
Em Am
there are things that we’ve done that we cannot undo
Em Fsus9
there are things I can’t hear when we’re telling the truth
