[Verse 1]
D G
I've heard it said
             D G
That people come into our lives for a reason
            D A
Bringing something we must learn
            G
And we are led to those
     F#m Bm
who help us most to grow
      Bm7
If we let them
        E A
And we help them in return
D G Gm Bm
Well, I don't know if I believe that's true
      Bb
But I know I'm who I am today
Gm C
Because I knew you...

[Chorus 1]
        D G
Like a comet pulled from orbit
       Gm D
As it passes a sun
         D G
Like a stream that meets a boulder
   C A
Halfway through the wood
D Em F#m Bm
Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
     G D G D
But because I knew you
Em F#m G A D
I have been changed for good.

[Verse 2]
            G
It well may be
              D
That we will never meet again
            G
In this lifetime
          D A
So let me say before we part
           G
So much of me is made
    F#m Bm
of what I learned from you
           Bm7
You'll be with me
         E A
Like a handprint on my heart
D G Gm Bm
And now whatever way our stories end
    Bb
I know you have re-written mine
    Gm C
By being my friend...

[Chorus 2]
        D G
Like a ship blown from its mooring
      Gm D
By a wind off the sea
        D G
Like a seed dropped by a skybird
C A
In a distant wood
D Em F#m Bm
Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
      G D
But because I knew you
 G D
Because I knew you
Em F#m G A Gm
I have been changed for good.

[Bridge]
            C F
And just to clear the air
           Gm
I ask forgiveness
                              C F
For the things I've done you blame me for
Am
But then, I guess we know
          D G
There's blame to share
    Am Bb C
And none of it seems to matter anymore

[Chorus 1]
        D G
Like a comet pulled from orbit
       Gm D
As it passes a sun
         D G
Like a stream that meets a boulder
 C A
Halfway through the wood
D Em
Who can say if I've been
   F#m Bm
Changed for the better?
G D
I do believe I have been
 A Bm
Changed for the better
     G D
And because I knew you...
G D
Because I knew you...
G D
Because I knew you...
G A D
I have been changed for good...

I am singing and playing this for my mother-in-law's memorial service. I would prefer to play the piano with this but the funeral home only has an organ and I don't think that would work well. This chord progression and structure is somewhat simplified from the official arrangement, which is in C major. For my voice this key works a bit better because some of the notes are pretty low. I hope you enjoy it.
