In the town of Springhill, Nova Scotia
Em G A Em
Down in the dark of the Cumberland Mine

There's blood on the coal and the miners lie
       Em D Em D
In the roads that never saw sun nor sky
Em D Em B
Roads that never saw sun nor sky

       Em D Em D
In the town of Springhill, you don't sleep easy
Em G A Em
Often the earth will tremble and roar
         Em A D B
When the earth is restless, miners die
Em D Em D
Bone and blood is the price of coal.
Em D Em B
Bone and blood is the price of coal.

       Em D Em D
In the town of Springhill, Nova Scotia
Em G A Em
Late in the year of fifty eight
    Em A D B
The day still comes and the sun still shines
         Em D Em D
But it's dark as the grave in the Cumberland mine.
Em D Em B
Dark as the grave in the Cumberland mine.

Em D Em D
Down at the coal face, miners working
Em G A Em
Rattle of the belt and the cutter’s blade
Em A D B
Rumble of the rock and the walls closed round
      Em D Em D
(The) living and the dead men two miles down
Em D Em B
living and the dead men two miles down

Em D Em D
Twelve men lay two miles from the pitshaft
Em G A Em
Twelve men lay in the dark and sang
Em A D B
Long hot days in the miners tomb
         Em D Em D
(It) was three feet high and a hundred long
Em D Em B
three feet high and a hundred long

Em D Em D
Three days passed and the lamps gave out and
Em G A Em
Kaela Brushton got up and said

There’s no more water, light or bread

So we'll live on songs and hope instead.
Em D Em B

A few things:

1) I believe the song was originally written by Peggy Seeger

2) I'm not sure about those chords; I play (capo 3-4, depending upon how my voice feels that day) Am G Am G / Am G C Em / Am G C Em / Am G Am G / Am G C Em
