SONG: Soldier Will You Marry Me
ARTIST: Jimmie Rodgers

No, not Jimmie Rodgers as in the country musician who did Train Whistle Blows and so
forth. I'm referring to a pop musician from the 50s, who happens to share the same name and
who gave us this hilarious song, about a soldier who receives a marriage proposal from a
woman, but refuses due to lack of clothes and in the end is forced to confess that he's
already married and has recently started a family.

F#
Soldier, soldier, will you marry me
                            C#
With your musket, fife and drum?
F# B
Oh how can I marry such a pretty girl as you
F# C# F#
When I’ve got no shoes to put on, put on?
B C# F#
Got no shoes to put on?

F#
So off to the cobbler she did go
                      C#
As fast as she could run
F# B
And she brought him a pair of the finest there
F# C# F#
And the soldier put them on, them on
B C# F#
The soldier put them on

F#
Now, soldier, soldier, will you marry me
                            C#
With your musket, fife and drum?
F# B
Oh how can I marry such a pretty girl as you
F# C# F#
When I’ve got no socks to put on, put on?
B C# F#
Got no socks to put on?

F#
So off to the haberdasher she did go
                      C#
As fast as she could run
F# B
And she brought him a pair of the finest there
F# C# F#
And the soldier put them on, them on
B C# F#
The soldier put them on
