Out of all my years in playing guitar...I've never known there to be a B#.

actually B# is what is called an enharmonic equivalent of C, and would occur, in one example, as the seventh scale degree of the C# major scale.

in the bit about vacation you can replace the B# (which, as it has already been pointed out,technically a C) with a D
