I wasn't seeing any accurate tabs for this song online, so I thought I'd submit the 
correct one, since all the other tabs I've seen aren't even remotely close.

standard tuning

First is the intro on clean guitar

The strumming pattern doesn't always repeat exactly, he sometimes occasionally changes 
when he picks the higher note versus the lower note. Listen to the song for those changes.

I find the easiest way to play this part is just to hold my fingers in this chord formation...

E|-9-| ...and just remove my finger from the D string when an open note
          needs to be played.

Then the distorted guitar comes in:

The intro is bass only actually, played on a 6-string bass by Hooky. Checking youtube will confirm this.
