I'll admit that I haven't taken the time yet to compare this with the album, so I can't speak to the accuracy of the tab itself (although it sounds mostly right to my ear's memory), however, based on your tabbing alone, I can't really see any reason to play this in Drop D. You could just as easily play this in standard tuning and just drop the bass note of the power chords two frets to compensate. This would give you a lot more mobility, allowing you to change strings while using the same chord shape, instead of limiting you to the bottom three and forcing you to use awkward 15th fret power chords. I guess it really comes down to playing style and/or preference, but I have always just used standard tuning unless the low D or D# was needed for the song (which it doesn't seem to be, according to your tab).

Why is this in drop D?
Wait, I know why. You're lazy and a bad guitarist!

THAT'S why.
