Intro: F Bb

F Bb
James River blues
F Bb
I just heard the awful news
F Bb
I could steer around the rocks
F Bb
But they're bustin' down the docks

F Bb F Bb

F Bb
James River blues
F Bb
That train came on through
F Bb
And the works getting slow
F Bb
Now where's a boat man to go?

Dm Bb
I think I'll float on down
Dm Bb
To Richmond town
Dm Bb
They don't need us anymore
Haulin' freight from shore to shore
That big iron hauls much more
Than we ever could before

F Bb F Bb

F Bb
I've seen good men going wrong
F Bb
I've seen bad ones get it right
F Bb
As that river rolls along
F Bb
I'll be stepping out tonight

Dm Bb
On the cool flow
Dm Bb
Floatin' down, down below
Dm Bb
The bridge to the waters edge
Dm Bb
From the ridge to ledge
Dm Bb
From the hills to the sea
Dm Bb C
I'll become a memory

F Bb
James River Blues
F Bb
James River Blues
F Bb
James River Blues

This may be the way they recorded it at some time in the past, but it isn't how they play it now. Here's a link to a live performance video
from August of 2014, where we can clearly see that they're in the key of G. Don't know why they changed it but they have. And it's not a "tuned down instruments" issue; tune yur guitar to standard pitch and play right along.
