[Intro]
A Am E A Am

[Verse]
E E5+ E6 E7 A
When I was a little child, I once found a bird lying on the ground.
   Am E A Am
It would not ever fly, again.
   E E5+ E6 E7 A
I held the bird up in my hands, I shed my tears over the lovely song
         Am E A Am
that not longer could be heard.

[Refrain]
C#m A (2x)
Uhh...Never learn to fly

[Verse]
      E E5+ E6 E7 A
With dirty hands I dug a hole and gently laid the bird to rest in soil:
  Am E A Am
A wound in the tear stained mud.
   E E5+ E6 E7
My tears wore rain as I revealed the secrets of a tree.
          A Am E A Am
A cross of bark to speak through wooden grains:

[Refrain]
C#m A (2x)
Uhh...Never learn to fly

[Bridge]
  F#m A/E D#m7b5 D7+
I sang a song which I remembered my grandma used to sing
    C#m B4 F#/Bb A
For me, when I was sick and laid in bed.
       F#m A/E D#m7b5 D7+
Then I cursed that day for showing me my own mortality
    C#m B4 F#/Bb A
For then I knew that all that lives turns cold.
A B Bbm F# Fm D# D#m C#
Cold and dead...
   C#m A B A B A B C#m
...and now time has passed by beneath my wings.

[Solo]
C#m A C#m A C#m A C#m C G/B

That was then I'm older now,
Am
but still I can't forget that rainy day.
Am
I raged against the ending times,
Am
though some day soon my son will maybe
Cm
Find the tree I cleansed of skin,
Cm
no chain-sling will ever climb it's rotten limbs.
Cm
And when the time has come for me to die,
Cm C#m A
I want to lie beside that bird.

C#m A

[Refrain]
C#m A (2x)
Uhh...Never learn to fly

[Outro]
E E5+ E6 E7 A
When I was a little child, I once found myself dying on the ground
    Am E
and now I'll never... Fly...

There's actually a version on their "Hereafter" demo that's played on guitar instead of piano. Same exact notes as the piano, just on a guitar instead :O

Gonna have to play this later, since it's kind of late here, but I appreciate that this song is finally given some attention!
