Down in the Seine (Days of Speed version)
Paul Weller

Tab by Brian Beckmann

This is a tab I worked out for the excellent live version of ‘Down in the Seine’ found on
the acoustic ‘Days of Speed’ release.

Intro: Em7- Dm7 (x3)

Weller plays grace notes on the Em7 chord, walking down a melody on the B
string, 3rd fret, 1st, open and on Dm7 adding B string 3rd fret as transition back to
Em7 chord.

Verse 1

Emaj7 Dmaj7 Emaj7 Dmaj7
Catch me I’m falling so fast and I can’t seem to find all the reasons I had

                     Emaj7 Dmaj7 Emaj7 Dmaj7
when the purpose was mine, now I stumble so fast rolling into the night…

Em7 Dm7 Em7 Dm7
Kiss me quick before I land and am broken in two, keep me on the right track,

                        Em7 Dm7
hold my dreams intact too – I get lost in this place - I get lost, yes it’s

Amaj7
true…

Chorus:
                    Dmaj7 Amaj7 Dmaj7
And in the waters I sink and in the waters I drink, until I rise to the top,

                  Amaj7 Dmaj7 Amaj7
which in truth is not, it’s the same as below we will put on a show, to make

                Dmaj7 Cmaj7 (hold for A bit)
you feel you’re alright, to make you feel there’s no fight… -

Repeat intro (x4)

Verse 2

Emaj7 Dmaj7 Emaj7 Dmaj7
Help me I’m sinking so fast into waters unplanned that I once held onto but

                Emaj7 Dmaj7
have got out of hand, now the things that I loved are the things I cannot

Emaj7 Dmaj7
stand…

Em7 Dm7 Em7
Squeeze me slow before I come to that part of the ground, it’s a million

      Dm7 (staccato stop) Em7 Dm7
miles up, it's a million miles down. I get lost in between and I wait to be

Amaj7
found…

Chorus:
                    Dmaj7 Amaj7 Dmaj7
And in the waters I sink and in the waters I drink, until I rise to the top,

                  Amaj7 Dmaj7 Amaj7
which in truth is a-not, it’s the same as below we will put on a show, to make

                 Dmaj7 Cmaj7 (hold for a bit)
you feel you’re alright, to make you feel there’s no… fight -

Just a note, I should have listed the Emaj7 chord as 'Emaj7 IV' to indicate fourth position. The chord block included at the bottom of the page is correct but the highlighted chord that shows up in the actual tab is a first position version.
