                Desire As – Prefab Sprout
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tabbed by: maguri
Tuning: Standard

Prefab Sprout
Desire As (1985)
(Paddy McAloon)

From: "Steve McQueen"

I find it hard to play this alone on one guitar and still preserve the
textures of the original. It probably wasn’t meant to be played like that,
either. It’s still very beautiful and what is here might give you some idea
to work out your own version.

The tuning of the original recording is somewhere in between things.

INTRO
| Emaj7 | Ebm | F# | E6 |

CHORUS (variation)
         Emaj7 Ebm F# E6
I've got six things on my mind you're no longer one of them
I've got six things on my mind you're no longer one of them
I've got six things on my mind you're no longer one of them
I've got six things on my mind you're no longer one of them

VERSE
              B/C# G#m9
They were the best times, the harvest years
                     F# Emaj7
With jam to lace the bread
   B/C# G#m9
So goodness, goodness knows why I'd
                F# Emaj7
Throw it to the birds

BRIDGE
F# Emaj7/F#
 But there it is,
F# Emaj7/F#
 And there we are
    F# B/D# G#m7 Gdim
And all I ever want to be is far from the eyes that ask me

PRE-CHORUS
B/F# G#m7 C#m9 A F#dim
In whose bed you gonna be and is it true you only see

CHORUS
  Emaj7/G# Ebm F# E6
Desire as a self-figured creature who changes her mind
  Emaj7/G# Ebm F# E6
Desire as a self-figured creature who changes her mind

LINK
             B/C# G#m9
It's perfect as it stands
            F# Emaj7/G#
So why then crush it in your perfect hands?

CHORUS
  Emaj7/G# Ebm F# E6
Desire as a self-figured creature who changes her mind

CHORUS (variation)
  Emaj7/G# Ebm F# E6
I've got six things on my mind you're no longer one of them
  Emaj7/G# Ebm F# E6
I've got six things on my mind you're no longer one of them

VERSE
   B/C# G#m9
So tell me you must have thought
                F#
It all out in advance
   B/C# G#m9
Or goodness, goodness knows why you'd
                F#
Throw it to the birds
             B/C# G#m9
You mock the good things, you play the heart strings,
                 F#
Play them one by one

BRIDGE
F# Emaj7/F#
 But there it is,
F# Emaj7/F#
 And there we are
    F# B/D# G#m7 Gdim
And all I ever want to be is far from the eyes that ask me

PRE-CHORUS
B/F# G#m7 C#m9 A F#dim
In whose bed you gonna be and is it true you only see

CHORUS
  Emaj7/G# Ebm F# E6

? in the chorus sounds like an "Emaj" to me!

ALSO, i believe the pre-chorus goes from "A" to "Am" rather that A to "F#dim" It's much easier to play and sounds pretty accurate for one guitar!
