I far I as understand, this song is not in standard tuning, it is in drop D. But this was still a very good tab! I
actually think it sounds perfect and I will be playing it like this from now on.

There is no reason to drop the E to D. The original tone is B and you could use a drop D tuning, but that doesn't seem appropriate to me. Way easier in standard tuning.

You can see in this video that Thom does indeed play it in Drop D, though I agree, it's not entirely necessary. I don't think he ever actually plays the open low D. I suppose he just prefers the drop D fingerings.
