Changed. But don't just depend on the bass for a chord. The note B is in the chord of B major and G# minor and would sound fine if played over either chord. G# minor is B major's relative minor.

I agree. We don't always listen to the bass to give us the chord name, however, in this instance it helps. B major and G# minor share 2 notes, that's why you think it works. To me, I keep hearing B major more than I hear G# minor.
