Capo 1

Intro: C, Em, C, Em, D
                                    C
In the evening when the stars shine down
                                    Em
All the bridge and tunnel girls come out
                                  C
We can dance until the walls fall down
            Em D
Cause tonight we own this town
                                     C
But in the morning when the sun's on fire
                                     Em
I'm burning through you like a razor wire
                   Am C
When we see ourselves in passing windows
                Em D
We feel like hell, everyone knows

C
You can't go back, heaven help me
Em
We've gone too far, when we can't be
C
The ones we want
                Em D
This is who we are, who we are

                           C
A shot of neon in a window pane
                             Em
A shot of whiskey and we end again
                                         C
You're moving further but you just can't win
                 Em D
And that's the way it's always been
                                 C
You don't wanna let your life go by
                                Em
So you give until the well runs dry
                           Am C
But when you lose your faith it never comes back
                  Em D
And time don't wait, now you know that

C
You can't go back, heaven help me
Em
We've gone too far, when we can't be
C
The ones we want
               Em D
This is who we are, who we are

C
I'm sorry but you can't go back, heaven help me
Em
We know too much, please believe me
C
Believe yourself
                Em D
This is who you are, who you are

    Am C
You try to get your head around it but it's never enough
    Em D
You give yourself a little something but it's not what you need
C
And all that worry, all for nothing
Em
Where you've been and where you're going
C
And even if you changed it somehow
Em D
Every step would lead to right now

C
You can't go back, heaven help me
Em
We've gone too far, when we can't be
C
The ones we want
               Em D
This is who we are, who we are

C
I could tell you that you can't go back, heaven help me
Em
We know too much, please believe me
C
Believe yourself
                Em D
This is who you are, who you are

C
Oh, you can't go back, heaven help me
Em
We've gone too far E
C
We can't go back
            Em D
This is who are, who we are

C
Oh, you can't go back, heaven help me
Em
We've gone too far
C
We can't go back

Em D

C, Em, C, Em, D (till fade)

The chords work for the most part. The chord changes aren't wrong necessarily just not in the right places. Also the capo should be on the second fret. And if you want to be even closer to the original, you should change the C to
Cadd9/G (332020) and the Em to Em7 (022030). It seems that Mr. Thomas has a liking of those chords in a lot of his music. The C and Em work though.
