Protect And Survive (C MacDonald/R MacDonald)1987

[Intro]
G G G G

    [Verse 1]
G D
The red hot sun burns up the hill,
    Em D
The winter's bride, the summer's king
  Em C
I tramp these acres and I feel
Em D
Once upon a time
    G D
And then it seemed that everything
     Em D
You saw and touched and felt was real
    Em C
You turned the tap and you turned the wheel
Em D
Breathing free

    [Chorus]

D G C
Once in a lifetime ,You live and love
           G D
Once in a lifetime ,You die
           G C
Once in a moment ,The sun goes down
     Em D Em D
Protect and survive

    [Verse 2]
G D
Now you search the open evening sky
 Em D
Trace the memories in your eyes
    Em C
For the prophet's hard rain and the deluge
 Em D
Lie in tears around your door
     G D
Once there were trees and livestock here
   Em D
A mother's love, the warnings clear
 Em C
But you chose to turn away from fear
Em D
Breathing free

    [Chorus]

D G C
Once in a lifetime ,You live and love
           G D
Once in a lifetime ,You die
           G C
Once in a moment ,The sun goes down
     Em D Em D
Protect and survive

     [Verse 3]
G D
Now there's a faceless cross on a distant hill
  Em D
A wasted voice, a silent scream
      Em C
Where the lovers love and the dreamers dream
    Em D
You stand and dream alone
          G D
You took your sacrifice to the gods of war
  Em D
Traded your children's lives for a mess of gold
     Em C
And you beat your ploughshares into swords
Em D
Breathing free

    [Chorus]

D G C
Once in a lifetime ,You live and love
           G D
Once in a lifetime ,You die
           G C
Once in a moment ,The sun goes down
     Em D Em D
Protect and survive

    [Chorus]

D G C
Once in a lifetime ,You live and love
           G D
Once in a lifetime ,You die
           G C
Once in a moment ,The sun goes down
     Em D Em D
Protect and survive

    [Outro]
     Em D Em D
Protect and survive
     Em D Em D
Protect and survive

They are a great band,"the story" is a great CD to end their recording career,Amazing that they were only big in the UK and Germany.

Excellent job.
For the 30th anniversary live at Stirling Castle gig they took it up to A (Capo at 2nd fret) Quite unusual for a band to take the key up from the original, most singers as they get older, or during a long tour, are more likely to take the easier option and sing lower.
