Islands by Sara Bareilles
Album: The Blessed Unrest
Track 11
[2013]

This was Roulie's work. She had the song in half step down tuning but had recommendations for standard tuning,
so I wanted to make a separate tab for those who didn't want to have to remember which standard chords
correlated with which half-step-down chords.

Let me know if something doesn't make sense, I went through this quickly!

Capo 6th fret

[Intro] Am C G x 2

[Verse]

Am C G
 Waiting for the bus stop
Am C G
Waiting for the concrete black top to settle down
Am C G D F
Long enough for me to get off and get a little ground

Am C G
I'm ready for the sea change
Am C G
Helpless felt this coming from a mile away
Am C G D F
And now you're looking at me babe, and how we'll separate if we can
                             C Em F
Cause I still count on one hand the number of good men I know

[Chorus]
                 G Am
It's like I'm standing on the edge with just a telephone wire
            F
Trying to get to you first to say the world's on fire
G Am
Holding my breath until I know you're alright
              F
Because the water will only rise

 When will you realize
G Am
 You must become an island
F C
 You must become an island
  G Am
 You must become an island
      F
And see for yourself that that's what I am

 Am C G x 2

[Verse]

Am C G
You always dirty up the windows
         Am
If you keep 'em at bay that way
          C G Am
No one's gonna surprise you by getting too close
             C G
 Anybody but me though
                D F
You've made exceptions to your rules
                              C Em F
And now we're staring down truth neither one of us wants to know

[Chorus]
                 G Am
It's like I'm standing on the edge with just a telephone wire
            F
Trying to get to you first to say the world's on fire
G Am
Holding my breath until I know you're alright
              F
Because the water will only rise

 When will you realize
G Am
 You must become an island
F C
 You must become an island
  G Am
 You must become an island
      F C G Am
And see for yourself the horizon is all we have
      G C G Am F
And see for yourself the horizon is all we have

G Am
Holding my breath until I know you're alright
              F
Because the water will only rise
