(No Lyrics)

[Verse 1]
                 Cm
Let's start with hope
                             Cm
I threw in the middle like a skipping stone
    Cm Cm
The ripples won, son of a gun
Cm
Some would not have thought so
      G G7
But I stand here commander in chief.
                Cm
And I take that seriously

[Verse 2]
              Cm
But along the way
        Cm
A rogue ripple turned tidal wave
   Cm Cm
In reaction to, what I tried to do
  Cm
A rebirth of a nation's hatred
G G7
Red, white, and blue. Is black in there too?
Cm
   Seriously?

Cm

[Bridge 1]
Eb
One man
              G
Rewriting the book on bad behavior
Cm
    Maybe cheats the neighbors
Ab
Feels he gets what they payed for
Eb
We can't
               G
Pat him on the back and send him on through,
Cm Ab
No man's ignorance will ever be his virtue

        G
Is this best we can be?
G7 Cm
     Seriously?

[Verse 3]
              Cm
Let's talk of fear
          Cm
And why I don't bring it in here
       Cm Cm
It's a dangerous word, it spooks the heard
       Cm
And we all bleed in the stampede
G G7
Fear makes a false friend indeed
              Cm
And I take it seriously

[Pre-bridge]
            Cm
But hear me now,
           Cm
Before the truth gets drowned out
     Cm
By a demagogue flexing
  Cm
A demagogue flexing
     G G7
He's history repeating

[Bridge 2]
Eb
Angry?
     G
Am I angry?
               Cm
You ask if I'm angry.
    Ab
And I'm at a loss for words

      Eb
After all we've done,
      G
Every battle hard one,
      Cm
Every hair gone gray
        Ab
In this name of this place
     Eb
In a history plagued
        G
With in-credible mistakes
        Cm
Still I pledge my allegiance to these
  Ab G G7
U-nited Divided States

Seriously?

Cm

[Verse 4]
               Cm
Let's end with why
       Cm
It's a question I
        Cm Cm
Want to ask of us, as a populace
Cm
Why not take our time
       G G7
Or the weight of the story...

...Seriously

Bless you for tabbing this. When I heard this for the first time I was so incredibly impressed with Sara's lyrics and melody; the whole thing is so great I can't stop listening to is. The way Leslie Odom Jr. sings the 'one man, rewriting the book on bad behavior' is my favorite part of the whole thing.
