Artist: Smokey Robinson
Song: Tears of a clown - acoustic session
Music: Stevie Wonder & Hank Cosby
Lyrics: William 'Smokey' Robinson
Tabbed by: DJ
20th July 2014

Based on Smokey's acoustic session with Daryl Hall
Clip at this link:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDVceKdx1UY

They play this a whole tone and a half lower than the
original Tamla track, either to suit Daryl's range,
or possibly for Smokey's benefit too, as most singers
tend to loose a bit of top range as they get older.

CAPO: 1st fret (Sounds in the key of Bb)

Chord names and fret positions are relative to the capo:
A = x02220   E     = 022100
D = xx0232   C#/F  = xx3121
G = 320033   F#m   = 244222
             Dmaj7 = xx0222

Why is the default in the key of A and not C?

Thank you for your tab rating, vcpavao,
The explanation is all there at the top of my tab. This is based on a specific acoustic performance Smokey did with Daryl Hall, you'll also see the link to the video. For this version he sings it in Bb, so playing it in A with a capo at the 1st fret makes it much easier to play on guitar and also achieve the riffs.
The original record as 'Smokey Robinson & The Miracles' was sung in Db. So if you prefer to play in that key, find my tab of that key at this link:
http://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/s/smokey_robinson_and_the_miracles/tears_of_a_clown_crd.htm
There you'll find the specific tab for the original Tamla Records version, where I tab it in C, and again with the use of a capo at the 1st fret you can then play along with the record.
