Stephen Fearing - Out To Sea

Capo 2nd Fret

[Intro]
Am F#m Am F#m Am F#m Am E7#9

[Verse]
            Am Dsus2/B
Some nights I see myself tryin’ to hold back the tide
 Cmaj7 D/F#
Standin’ in the water with my arms flung wide
Am Dsus2/B Cmaj7 E7#9
Lookin’ at myself through another fish’s eyes – or a seagull gusted high
Am Dsus2/B
Carolina told me what love could really be and
               Cmaj7 D/F#
As she spoke, she laid it out so sure and simply
              Am Dsus2/B
But no matter what I do I think I’m always gonna find
               Cmaj7 E7#9
That I cannot bridge the gap between my heart and mind

[Chorus]
 F G Bbmaj7 F G Bbmaj7 F G Am
No, I just can’t tell No, I don’t know why History repeats itself
Am/G D/F# E7#9
before my very eyes

[Intro]
(Repeat with Sax)
 F G Bbmaj7 F G Bbmaj7 F G Am
No, I just can’t tell No, I don’t know why History repeats itself
Am/G D/F# E7#9
before my very eyes

[Intro]
Am F#m Am F#m Am F#m Am E7#9

[Verse]
            Am Dsus2/B
Some nights I see myself bein’ swept out to sea
              Cmaj7 D/F#
With the rain and salty water dancin’ all around me
        Am Dsus2/B
The other wretched faces – lookin’ for a light
         Cmaj7 E7#9
Or a hand to help us through these troubled times
Am Dsus2/B
Carolina showed me what life could really be
                 Cmaj7 D/F#
‘nd as she spoke she laid it out so sure and simply.
               Am Dsus2/B
But, no matter what we do, I think we’re always gonna find
                Cmaj7 E7#9
That we cannot bridge the gap between our hearts and minds_
 F G Bbmaj7 F G Bbmaj7 F G Am
No, I just can’t tell No, I don’t know why History repeats itself
Am/G D/F# E7#9
before my very eyes

[Chorus]
 F G Bbmaj7 F G Bbmaj7 F G Am Am/G
No, I just can’t tell Oh, no, I don’t know why History repeats itself
 F G Am Am/G F G Am Am/G D/F# E7#9
History repeats itself History repeats itself Before our very eyes

For the intro, I thumb and palm mute the bass-style intro while hitting sparse chords with my right-hand fingers. Then either play the song as a finger-style thing or switch to a pick.
