Stephen Malkmus

If you have any advice, corrections, additions, feel free to email.

Tuning = a rare STANDARD for Mr. Malkmus.

Intro:
E|-----4---------------------------------------------------|
B|-6h7----7--6-----6---------------------------------------|
G|--------------5-----5----3----0------6------6-6--6-------|
D|-----------------------------------4---4-3---3-4---4-3---|
A|-------------------------------------------------------4-|
E|---------------------------------------------------------|

E|-----4---------------------------------------------------|
B|-6h7----7--6-----6---------------------------------------|
G|--------------5-----5----3----0------6------6-6--6-------|
D|-----------------------------------4---4-3---3-4---4-6-6-|
A|---------------------------------------------------------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------|

These are the actual chords, but it’s a lot easier w/ a capo on 1st fret.
If playing w/ capo 1st fret, obviously just move each chord down half step
for appropriate fingerings.

C# C#/C
Bleed the pot When you're hot you're hot

	         Bbm F#
And when enough is enough Do the fakers drop out?

C# C#/C
Promise me You will always be

    Bbm F#
Too awake to be famous Too wired to be safe

    C# C#/C
But all you really wanted

    *Bbm F#
Was everything Plus everything

        C# G# F# C#
And the truth I only poured you Half a line

*Lead Guitar Part (starts at “Everything Plus everything…”)
E|-----------------------------------------------------------|
B|-------------2-4-2-4-2-4-4/6------6/4-----4h6-4/2----------|
G|-3-5-3-5-3-5-----------------------------------------------|
D|-----------------------------------------------------------|
A|------------------------------------------------------3----|
E|-----------------------------------------------------------|

(Play intro part again here)

C# C#/C
Carry on It's a marathon

        Bbm F#
Take me off the list I don't want to be missed

C# C#/C
Carrion Its what we all become

     Bbm F#
From small minds and tall trees Away from the action

    C# C#/C
But all you ever wanted

    *Bbm F#
Was everything And everything

         C# G# F# C#
Plus the truth I only poured you Half alive Half alive

C# G# F# C#
I only poured you half a lie

*(Lead Guitar part shown above played here as well)

(Next Malkmus plays the intro w/ subtle variations in it. I just improvise
this part.)

(Now, this weird double guitar harmony solo thing (at 2:17) is impossible to
figure out. Sorry. Please email me if you can figure it out.)

(Now for this guitar solo, there is a second guitar part harmonizing along
the way, but this is the main melody for the solo. Play it alone and it’ll
still sound nice. The end gets sort of questionable, but still sounds
close. Then the last 5 notes are a perfectly awesome ending. Listen to song
 for exact timing of everything.)

Enjoy! Such a great song. I was surprised I couldn't find a tab, so I
 decided to do it myself.

Peace.

in the intro, when i have the 0 on the G string, it's technically a 1. i put a zero because i play this with capo 1st fret, which makes it a 0 instead of a 1.
