Originally by The Innocence Mission
but personally, I like Sufjan's cover better.
I tabbed it from this video that is filmed well
too: http://youtube.com/watch?v=uceNZtKZAnc
here is the guitar tab for the key he does it in the video
the second half of the lyrics is in banjo tab.
I just split the type of tab it is so you can have the full
lyrics and so I didnt have to put the full song up twice.

enjoy, this is a fun song to play.

Guitar:
Standard tuning and all, capo on 4 please.

F C
Look for me another day.
                    G
I feel that I could change,
                    Dm
I feel that I could change.
F C
There's a sudden joy that's like
                    G
a fish, a moving light;
                    Dm
I thought I saw it
F C
rowing on the lakes of Canada

            Dm C
Oh laughing man, what have you won?
              Am F
Don't tell me what cannot be done.
          Dm C
My little mouth, my winter lungs,
              Am F
don't tell me what can't be done.

Walking in the circle of a flashlight
        D Am
someone starts to sing, to join in.
C G
Talk of loneliness in quiet voices.
     D Am
I am shy but you can reach me.
C G
Rowing on the lakes of Canada,
C G
Rowing on the lakes of Canada,

            C G
Oh laughing man, what have you won?

My little mouth, my winter lungs,
              Em Am

This is a fine tab, not like, great or anything, but i think it's a capo on the 5th, and also, it would've been nice if you did the whole song for both banjo and guitar. Not like it really matters that much, it's not like it takes that much effort. Anyway, the I like Stevens' cover, but i love the girls voice in the original. They should play together, that would be cool.

it makes a lot more sense to play this song without a capo. or on 5.
either way, with the chord shapes you listed, the capo would have to be on 9 for it to be the right key.

so just don't be a douchebag if you don't know your shit.
