I think in this song A/F# should be played instead of E/G#

this sounds pretty good for standard tuning. they play it in drop D but this sounds correct

The E/G# has an alternate fingering that I feel lends itself to a quicker chord change with practice. It also sounds a bit cleaner on an acoustic. You can experiment with it if you like.
4x2100 or 4x21xx (Letting the bottom notes ring sounds nice on acoustic)
