“All My Lovin’”
The Beatles
Tabbed by John Martin

This tab uses a technique called cross-picking.
Developed by George Shuffler with the Stanley Brothers,
it involves using a pick in a constant roll across
three strings. Use the pick direction of down-down-up
(DDU). In some cases you must use a DDU DDU DU pattern.

One suggestion. The first chorus should go(barre): C#m(barre) -- Caug(barre) -- E(barre), and C#m --Caug -- E* w/hammering. The second and final chorus should read C#m(barre) - E(barre), C#m(barre) -- E* w/hammering.

My understanding was that this song was not played live in concerts (except perhaps on TV specials where the playing was mimed?) because of this reason: the original recording had 3 guitarists playing -- Paul, George and John -- at the same time, with a bass overdub. It was a toss-away song to fill the album according to sources.

If you want to play with a rhythm and a lead, then you've got to get a little creative, which is kind of hinted at in the tabs above, especially if you double up the lead guitar riff with barre chording. For how to do this, I'd suggest looking on YouTube for the video of the lead guitarist from "Rain" (a Beatles cover band) explaining how and why it's done. Also a very fine tutorial from MLSwartz on YouTube.

Mr. Martin -- thanks for posting and the tip about the strumming technique. It makes sense given George's affection/familiarity with Blue Grass and Country. I've heard him use this technique on a few other songs as well.
