Tom Rush did a great version of this song on his first album in the 1960's. He added a chorus that (I think) he sang every second verse and then at the end. It went something like this:

Oh, (Run up to C) Well I'm down here crying 'cause she's (G) gone.

(Run up to C) Feel like I'm dying 'cause she's (G) gone,

(D7)She's solid (G) gone.
