GIRL WITH THE RED BALLOON - The Civil Wars
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tabbed by: Macheeoo
Email: macheeoo@yahoo.com

Tuning: Standard

***NOTE: I'm not 100% sure that the B7 chord is the correct chord. I know it
has a B note in it and it sounded closer than Em, B, or G. If you think you've
figured it out let me know! Also, play the song in a polka fashion, waltzy if
you will in a 3/4 time signature I believe (never took music theory...)

Intro:
Am E Am E x4

VERSE:
Am E Am E Am E Am E Am C/B (Walk Up)
There's a pub on the South side of town
C G Dm E Am
Time stands still while there's still wine around
Am E Am E Am E Am C/B
She's the one in the calico
    C G Dm E Am
The one who's always and never alone

CHORUS:
F C B7
Oooh - Did she let him go or did the four winds blow him away
                       E
Oooh - Does she even know
          E E
She's the girl with the red balloon

REPEAT INTRO:

VERSE:
Am E Am E Am E Am C/B
Keep her glass full of cheap champagne
C G Dm E Am
She will tell of a man with no name
Am E Am E Am E Am C/B
Smoke and mirrors have done her in
C G Dm E Am
She's in love and she won't be again

CHORUS:
F C B7
Oooh - Did she let him go or did the four winds blow him away
                       E
Oooh - Does she even know
          E E

REPEAT INTRO:

Am E Am E
So lovely
Am E Am E
So lonely
Am E
Floating away

CHORUS:
F C B7
Oooh - Did she let him go or did the four winds blow him away
                       E
Oooh - Does she even know
          E E

Macheeoo, this was a great tab, you were very close with the B7 it is actually a Bm7 (if you listen closely you will hear a D rather than the D# that would make it major). I also notice a couple other things the Dm that you have in the verse is actually an F and then during the bridge rather than just the Am and E it actually has a walk down in the bass; so while maintaining the Am chord walk the bass down from the A to G, F#, F. Cheers!

I believe the B7 chord is actually a Bm7b5 chord, as shown in the first diagram on this chord chart - http://www.guitarchords247.com/chords/Bm7b5/ Also, during the verses, the chord stays on Am, but with an alternating bass from the A string to the E string and adding the little hammer on lick John Paul White does. And instead of a Dm chord during the verse and the F in the chorus, try an Fmaj7 chord. If you watch some videos it appears that's what he is using and he's adding a little hammer on lick there too. Thanks for posting this here, it really has helped me out with learning the song.
