If you listen to the album version, there are a few guitars playing at the same time, one acoustic, at least two electric. The main strum once the beat drops is, Down, Down Up, Up Down Up....a pretty common strum pattern. In the beginning of the song you hear the electric guitar palm muting chords with reverb on the amp and he's playing: Down Down mute Down Down Mute....repeat.

Then the acoustic often just goes crazy over the main strum pattern and just does Down Up Down Up Down Up Down Up....
