From their new album "Trouble Will Find Me", which will be amazing because this song is
on it. The C/Bb chord is just to get a nice transition from Am, and it makes it sound
more like the recording, you can also briefly play a Bb. Enjoy!

Don’t Swallow the Cap
The National

Dull light breaks behind the houses

I don’t see what’s strange about this

It's not there enough to leave it

When it gets so late I forget everyone

Calm down it’s alright
F
Keep my arms the rest of the night

When they ask what do I see
C/Bb C
I say a bright white beautiful heaven hangin’ over me

[Chorus]

Bb
I’m not alone

Into the bone

I’ll never grieve

You are missing an Interlude.

If you want to re-create the incessant F note that runs throughout the song, stick a capo fifth fret, put your first finger on 1st(6th) fret, b string, and then never remove it.
(with capo)
verse: Am / C / Em / G
chorus: F / Am / C / F

This works well, or I find you can do the same thing without a capo by fretting the first fret of the high E string (F) with every chord. It's already in most of the chords, so you just have to add it to the Am and the C. If you do a half bar with your first finger it's really easy.
