[Verse 1]
    Dm G Dm G
A butcher, yes, that was my trade,
         F A# F A
But the King's shilling is now my fee,
    Dm G Dm G
A butcher I may as well have stayed,
           F G A
For the slaughter that I see!

[Verse 2]
          Dm G Dm G
And the preacher, in his pulpit,
            F A# F A
Sermoned, "Go and fight! Do what is right!"
    Dm G Dm G
But he don't have to hear these guns,
          F G A
And I'll bet he sleeps at night!

[Chorus]
    Am
And I-----------------,
    Dm Dm/C
And I can't stop shaking,
   G/B A#
My hands won't stop shaking,
   Dm Dm/C
My arms won't stop shaking,
   G/B A#
My mind won't stop shaking,
   Am G G G4 G
I want to go home,

Please, let me go home--------, go home!

And I have seen a friend of mine...
        F A# F A
...Hang on the wire, like some rag toy,
      Dm G Dm G
Then, in the heat, the flies come down,
      F G A
And cover up the boy!

Mametz Wood, and French Ver - dun,
         Dm G Dm G
If the preacher he could see those flies,
            F G A
'Wouldn't preach for the sound of guns!

[Chorus]
    Am
And I-----------------,

I thought this song deserved a proper ukulele version, rather than just the Version 1, which is not a ukulele tab at all, but just a copy of my guitar version. I personally did not post the Version 1 uke tab, it has been cut & pasted from my guitar tab by one of ultimateGuitar's administrators. It really annoys me that there are so many of these 'cloned' guitar tabs masquerading as ukulele tabs. It's clear on my own guitar tabs, where there are tabbed riffs, and chord legends, that these were never intended to be ukulele versions. So I hope uke players will find my above version more useful.
