FORTY SIX and TWO

TUNING: D - A - d - G - B - e

Notes: The intro and interludes can be figured out easily once you get the hang of these
chords... mainly you'll be on A string and d string with light touches to other strings (I sometimes
hit the D string to add volume and what not...). By the way, I also love these chords
(https://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/t/tool/forty-six_and_2_crd.htm) by richk. I think they helped me a
lot to get started. Also, they may sound better for softer acoustic cover of the song. Anyway, here
is my crazy tab/chords, so enjoy! I play this song the way I write here either with acoustic guitar
or electric guitar.

TIP: Keep your pinky on the 3rd fret of the B string, and your middle finger on the 2nd fret of the
G string throughout the song. You can play Bbm7b5 instead of Bb6(b5) till you get the hang of it.

DISCLAIMER: I do not know how Tool actually plays this song. This is just the way I rendered it, and
it may not be exactly the way it should be played, but I don't really care. Oh, and also I didn't write
this song and all the rights of the material belongs to the artist. With that said, please do not share
this to other sites without permission. If you really want to, send me a message.

A :- 0 ---------------- 3 ---------------- 2 ---------------- 1 ---------------- 1-|
D :- 0 ---------------- 0 ----------------0 ---------------- 0 ---------------- 0-|

THESE CHORDS ARE RESPECTIVE TO THE DROP D TUNING on 6th string - i.e., you can find alternative
ways to play these same chords on standard tuning or whatever, but they will not sound too much
alike.

Since UtlimateGuitar hates these chords, I am changing them to simplified form:
Asus4(omit5) ==> Asus4
Amadd11(omit5)/C ==> Amadd11/C
Bm7(omit5) ==> Bm7b5
Bbm7b5 ==> Bbm7b5
Bb6(b5) ==> Bb6

[Verse]
Asus4
My shadow’s
Amadd11/C
Shedding skin and
Bm7
I’ve been picking
Bb6
Scabs again.

Asus4
I’m down
Amadd11/C
Digging through
Bm7b5
My old muscles
Bbm7b5
Looking for a clue.

Asus4
I’ve been crawling on my belly
Amadd11/C
Clearing out what could’ve been.
Bm7b5
I’ve been wallowing in my own confused
Bbm7b5
And insecure delusions

Asus4
For a piece to cross me over
Amadd11/C
Or a word to guide me in.
Bm7b5
I wanna feel the changes coming down.
Bbm7b5
I wanna know what I’ve been hiding in

[Chorus]
Asus4
My shadow.
Amadd11/C
My shadow.
Bm7b5 Bb6
Change is coming through my shadow.
Asus4
My shadow’s
Amadd11/C
Shedding skin and
Bm7
I’ve been picking
Bb6
Scabs again.

[Verse]
Asus4
I’ve been crawling on my belly
Amadd11/C
Clearing out what could’ve been.
Bm7b5
I’ve been wallowing in my own chaotic
Bbm7b5
And insecure delusions.

Asus4
I wanna feel the change consume me,
Amadd11/C
Feel the outside turning in.
Bm7b5
I wanna feel the metamorphosis and
Bbm7b5
Cleansing I’ve endured within

[Chorus]
Asus4
My shadow
Amadd11/C
My shadow
Bm7b5
Change is coming.
Bb6
Now is my time.

[Bridge]
Asus4
Listen to my muscle memory.
Amadd11/C
Contemplate what I’ve been clinging to.
Bm7b5
Forty-six and two
Bbm7b5
 ahead of me.

Asus4
I choose to live and to
Amadd11/C
Grow, take and give and to
Bm7b5
Move, learn and love and to
Bbm7b5
Cry, kill and die and to

Asus4
Be paranoid and to
Amadd11/C
Lie, hate and fear and to
Bm7b5
Do what it takes to
Bbm7b5
 move through.

Asus4
I choose to live and to
Amadd11/C
Lie, kill and give and to
Bm7b5
Die, learn and love and to
Bbm7b5
Do what it takes to step through.

[Verse]
Asus4
See my shadow changing,
Amadd11/C
Stretching up and over me.
Bm7b5
Soften this old armor.
Bbm7b5
Hoping I can clear the way

Asus4
By stepping through my shadow,
Amadd11/C
Coming out the other side.
Bm7b5
Step into the shadow.
Bbm7b5
Forty six and two are just ahead of me
