HIGHWAY KIND - Townes Van Zandt
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tabbed by: Miller

Tuning: Standard

Intro: Em Em9 C D Em

Em Em9 C D Em
My days they are the highway kind, they only come to leave.
D Em C D Em
The leaving I don't mind, it's the coming that I crave.
D Em D C Bm
Pour the sun upon the ground, stand to throw a shadow.
D Em C D Em
Watch it grow into the night and feel the spinning sky.

Em Em9 C D Em
Time among the pine trees, it felt like breath of air.
D Em C D Em
Usually I just walk this streets and tell myself to care.
D Em D C Bm
Sometimes I believe me; sometimes I don't hear.
D Em C D Em
Sometimes the shape I'm in, won't let me go.

Em Em9 C D Em
I don't know too much for true but my heart knows how to pound.
D Em C D Em
My legs know how to love someone; my voice knows how to sound.
D Em D C Bm
Shame that it's not enough; shame that it is a shame.
D Em C D Em
Follow the circle down, where would you be?

Em Em9 C D Em
You're the only one I want and I've never heard your name.
D Em C D Em
Let's hope we meet someday, if we don't it's all the same.
D Em D C Bm
I'll meet the ones between us, and be thinking about you;
D Em C D Em
and all the places I have seen and why you were not there.

Pluck the bass and higher strings together on the first note of each chord.

After the C add the D on the second sting and play and pull off rather than play the D chord. Also easier to do this than play the Bm.

Capo on second fret to sound in tune with Lyle L.
