The C* I'm pretty sure is indicating the slide. You can hear it if you listen to the song. I'm pretty sure this is tabbed a step too low, though. It would sound right capoed on two, but if you want the slide in there it's best to play it A-D instead of G-C. To do the slide you slide your ring finger on the D chord (the first D note on the third fret) and sliding it to the fifth fret, then back to the A chord. I also like to add the third-fret D note as a hammer-on/pull-off to the A chord.
