The chord voicing/variations at the beginning are indeed all wrong, but if you tuned your guitar to drop D and played along using more normal chord fingerings, it'd be more/less right on to how I do it (and how it looks to me a lot like A.Lewis does it on video).
Edit - I just noticed you listed the tuning as D#. If your tuning was D# standard, those chords probably are reasonable fingerings (though ouch - buy a capo, LOL!). Though the original is done in standard tuning with drop-D, if I'm not mistaken.
