...WAITING IN VAIN... by Bob Marley
---------------------..............

*from 'Exodus' (1977)*

[Intro]

G#maj7 C#maj7 (x2)

[Chorus]

G#maj7 C#maj7
I don't wanna wait in vain for your love.
G#maj7 C#maj7
I don't wanna wait in vain for your love.

[Verse]

G#maj7 C#maj7
From the very first time I rest my eyes on you, girl,
G#maj7 C#maj7
 My heart says follow through.
G#maj7 C#maj7
But I know, now, that I'm way down on your line,
G#maj7 C#maj7
But the waitin' feel is fine.

G#maj7 C#maj7
So don't treat me like a puppet on a string,
G#maj7 C#maj7
'Cos I know how to do my thing.
G#maj7 C#maj7
Don't talk to me as if you think I'm dumb,
G#maj7 C#maj7
I wanna know when you're gonna come. See...

[Chorus]

G#maj7 C#maj7
I don't wanna wait in vain for your love.
G#maj7 C#maj7
I don't wanna wait in vain for your love.
G#maj7 C#maj7
I don't wanna wait in vain for your love.

[Bridge]

        C# D# Cm7 A#m7
'Cos if summer is here, I'm still waiting there.
C# D# Cm7 A#m7
Winter is here, and I'm still waiting there.

[Solo]

G#maj7 C#maj7 (x4)

(Like I said)...

[Verse]

G#maj7 C#maj7
It's been three years since I'm knockin' on your door,
G#maj7 C#maj7
And I still can knock some more.
G#maj7 C#maj7
Ooh girl, ooh girl, is it feasible, (I wanna know now),
G#maj7 C#maj7
For I to knock some more? Yah see...

G#maj7 C#maj7
In life, I know, there's lots of grief,
G#maj7 C#maj7
But your love is my re-lief.
G#maj7 C#maj7
Tears in my eyes burn, tears in my eyes burn,
          G#maj7 C#maj7
While I'm waiting, while I'm waiting for my turn. See...

[Chorus]

G#maj7 C#maj7
I don't wanna wait in vain for your love.
G#maj7 C#maj7
I don't wanna wait in vain for your love.
G#maj7 C#maj7
I don't wanna wait in vain for your love.
G#maj7 C#maj7
I don't wanna wait in vain for your love.
#Gmaj7 C#maj7
I don't wanna wait in vain for your love, oh...
G#maj7
 I don't wanna, I don't wanna, I don't wanna, I don't wanna,
C#maj7
I don't wanna wait in vain.
    G#maj7
No, I don't wanna, I don't wanna, I don't wanna, I don't wanna,
C#maj7
I don't wanna wait in vain.
    G#maj7
No, I don't wanna, I don't wanna, I don't wanna, I don't wanna,
C#maj7
I don't wanna wait in vain.
    G#maj7
No, I don't wanna, I don't wanna, I don't wanna, I don't wanna,
C#maj7
I don't wanna wait in vain.
          G#maj7
It's your love that I'm waiting on,
(I don't wanna, I don't wanna, I don't wanna, I don't wanna,
I don't wanna wait in vain).
        C#maj7
It's my love that you're running from.
         G#maj7
It's jah love that I'm waiting on,
(I don't wanna, I don't wanna, I don't wanna, I don't wanna,
I don't wanna wait in vain).
        C#maj7
It's me love that you're running from.

(Fade)

this is the same as version 2 without the capo. But I think the capo sounds better

To be fair... Bob Marley never used a Capo and it's very unlikely he would. So if you want to play it as the original song, then stick with these chords - if you DO want to use a Capo to make it easier, I would suggest putting it on the 1st Fret to put it into Gmaj7 and Cmaj7 rather than on the 4th Fret (as in Version 2). Just use the Transpose tool on this site to take it DOWN one semi tone if you want to do it that way.
