[Intro]

C - D | Em (6x)

[Verse 1]

         C D Em
I was walking around, just a face in the crowd try to keep myself out of the rain
          C D Em
Saw a vagabond king wear a styrofoam crown wondered if I might end up the same
            C D Em C D G
There's a man out on the corner, singing old songs about change everybody got their cross to bare, these days.

[Verse 2]

               C D Em
She came looking for some shelter with a suitcase full of dreams
              C D Em
To a motel room on the boulevard I guess she's trying to be James Dean
     C D Em C D Em
She's seen all the disciples and all the 'wanna be's' no one wants to be themselves these days
C D G
Still there's nothing to hold on to but these days

[Chorus]

          C D Em C D G
These days the stars ain't out of reach - These days there ain't a ladder from the streets oh no no
C D G C D G
These days are fast, nothing lasts in this graceless age - There ain't nobody left but us these days

[Verse 3] (like Verse 2)

Jimmy shoes busted both his legs, trying to learn to fly
From a second story window, he just jumped and closed his eyes
His momma said he was crazy - he said momma "I've got to try" Don't you know that all my heroes died
And I guess I rather die f f f fade away - yeah

[Chorus]

C D Em C D G
These days the stars ain't out of reach But these days there ain't a ladder from the streets oh no no
C D G C D Em
These days are fast, nothing lasts it's a graceless age - Even innocence has caught the midnight train
C D G
There ain't nobody left but us these days

[Bridge]

C Am C Am
C Am C Am
I know Rome's still burning though the times have changed
C Am D (C)
This world keeps turning round and round and round and round these days

[Solo]

These days the stars ain't out of reach But these days there ain't a ladder from the streets oh no no
These days are fast, nothing lasts it's a graceless age - Even innocence has caught the midnight train

These days the stars ain't out of reach But these days there ain't a ladder from the streets oh no no
These days are fast, nothing last there ain't no time to waste - There ain't nobody left to take the blame

Awesome stuff. Best version out there. I like to play a Cadd9 (X32030) in place of the C in the Intro/verse. I'm not sure if it belongs there, but it sounds nice - especially when picking the chords for the intro.
