Fire - Bruce Springsteen

[Verse 1]
                  G
I'm drivin' in my car I turn on the radio
                Am G
I'm pullin' you close You just say no
                  Am Em
You say you don't like it, but girl I know you're a liar
               C D G
'cause when we kiss, hmm Fire

[Verse 2]
              G
Well, late at night I'm takin' you home
                   Am G
When I say I wanna stay You say you wanna be alone
                  Am Em
You say you don't love me Girl, you can't hide your desire
            C D G G
And when we kiss, oh-oh Fire Fire

[Bridge]
          C G
You got a hold on me right from the start
       D G
It's a grip so tight I cannot tear it apart
   C G
My nerves all jumpin', actin' like a fool
     A D
Your kisses they burn but your heart stays cool

[Verse 3]
              G
Romeo and Juliet Samson and Delilah
              Am G
Baby, you can bet their love they didn't deny
               Am Em
Your words say split but your words they lie
               C D G G
'cause when we kiss, hmm Fire Fire

The E bass note is vital, but the use of the sub-mediant chord (Am) is inherent in the composition of the vocal part.

This song sounds a bit rapey in 2021...

zakkglynn is right. I'm more concerned about the C on the opening of "When we kiss". I'm more tempted to play the Am again (since that sung note "Kiss" is an A and sounds awkward when playing the C).
