The F#'s should be F#m's.

I agree, the F#s are actually F# minors.

I was only playing this with the octave notes (so for F#, 2x4xxx). So not even a 5th chord. That has that sound of the original. But you could either use an F#m which would be much better than an F#-major chord, or you could do this like some other similar songs (like While My Guitar Gently Weeps for example) and just move the bass line over the minor chord. In that case: Am Am/G Am/F# F E (or maybe FM7 instead of F). I saw DiddyDee approaching it like this on his acoustic and it was pretty nice.
