Be Yourself - Chris Cornell (Solo acoustic)
Tabbed by: superted aka Øyvind Bjørndalen
Email: superted@sjefs.net

Tuning: Standard EADGBe, capo on 2nd fret.

I put this to the paper, because I could not find any correct chords for the acoustic
of this song. The one here on ultimate-guitar has incorrect chrods, an wrong lyrics, and
is a total mess! And for some reason my first attempt to upload my very first tab was
without reason? That's just stupid!

I play it almost exactly the same way I play it on my electric guitar, with some minor
Listen to an acoustic performance of Chris and you'll get the idea if you are uncertain
it's done. Anyways, by my ear, this sounds great.

I name the chords like you're playing without a capo (with capo on 2nd fret, F becomes
G becomes A etc).

Verse and chorus: Bridge:

Am 01220x F 112331 D x577xx
C 01023x G 355433 C x355xx
F 112331 A 577555 Asus2 x022xx
D# 0320xx E x799xx

    Am F Am F

Chris strums the chords all the way through the first chorus with palm muting, but it
without palm muting aswell.

Am C F D# x 2

[Verse 1]
Am C F D# Am
Someone falls to pieces sleepin all alone, someone kills the pain
                     C F D#
Spinning in the silence to finally drift away
Am C F D# Am
Someone gets excited in a chapel yard, catches a bouquet

Am C F Am

(Sing the chorus line four times)

Play the intro chords a couple of times: Am C F D#

(remember to use the other chords)

F G
   Even when you've paid enough
      A E D C Asus2

     F G
with every single memory of
     A E D C Asus2
the good or bad, faces of luck
 F G
don't lose any sleep tonight
         A E D C Asus2
i'm sure everything will end up allright
    you may win or lose

(Just do variations of the chorus, like this)

But to be yourself is all that you can do, yeah-eah...
To be yourself is all that you can do

To be yourself is all that you can do, yeah-eah
To be yourself is all that you can do-oo
To be yourself is all that you can--
Be yourself is all that you can--
Be yourself is all that you can dooooooohoooo

hmmm.. I see the formatting wasn't right on.. sometimes the Am-chord is a victim of the feared new-line/page-break monster... ah well..

and when I say D# chord... I actualle meant Dsus2 ... sorry 'bout that...

It's a nice tab but the Eb in the intro/verse should be a Dm

Seems close but a little bit off.

Watching him play it acoustically, it looks like he plays it without a capo (which should come out to the same chords you have listed. I.e., your Am sounds like a Bm using a capo at the second fret).

However, he plays Bm D G Em, not F for the last chord (which equals the D# you listed).

Also, sometimes instead of playing Em, he plays sort of just lifts his finger off of the low E string. Other times, it looks like he's playing an Em7 or something. When and where does these changes seems to vary from performance to performance too.
