Artist: City And Colour/Dallas Green
Track: The Lonely Life
Album: The Hurry and the Harm
Year: 2013

Tuning: EADGBe

CAPO 3rd

All chords are relative to the capo on the 3rd fret. Listen out for his signature
hammer-ons and pull-offs and general strumming pattern throughout the track. It's pretty basic
but sounds good playing
against the track though I haven't figured the bridge part out other than to say there's
the C/E, G
and Am in there so any input is welcome.

CHORDS:

Em7 - 022030
Em - 022000
C/E - 032010
G - 320033
D/F#- 200230
Am - 002210

[Verse 1]

Em7
What if I did not love you?
C/E
Where will that be to me
Em7
But I wander through the avenues
C/E
Under a pall of misery

[Verse 2]
(same as verse 1)

Would I be face down in a gutter
With cheap whiskey on my breath
The lonely life of a writer
Whose words could not pay his debts

[Chorus]

      Em C/E G D/F#
Saying please don't, please don't pass me by
      Em C/E
I am alive, oh can't you see?
              G D/F#
That I've been blinded completely
      Em C/E G D/F#
Please don't, please don't pass me by
      Em C/E
I am alive, oh can't you see?
              G D/F#
That I am pleading for your mercy

[Verse 3]
(same as verse 1)

What if we became strangers?
Would you notice my face in a crowd?
And you could you hear the sorrow in my voice?
Helplessly crying your name out loud

[Verse 4]
(same as verse 1)

Would I be searching for a savior?
Burned and burning with regret
The lonely life of a writer
With one last desperate request

[Chorus]
(same chords progression)

Saying please don't, please don't pass me by
I am alive, oh can't you see?
That I've been blinded completely
Please don't, please don't pass me by
I am alive, oh can't you see?
That I am pleading for your mercy

[Bridge]

D/F# Am
I've been on the lamb
      G Em
Being hunted, something fierce
Am D/F#
They say time and tide don't wait for no man
             Am
But I was just hoping
C/E
These storm filled skies will clear

[Chorus]
(same chords progression)

Please don't, please don't pass me by
Please don't, please don't pass me by
Please don't, please don't pass me by
I am alive, oh can't you see?
That I am pleading for your mercy

Sounds excellent! I could be wrong, but I believe the bridge is D, Em, Am, C.

Hey, thanks man. I took another look and I think it's probably this, again, in a very simple form. Play it choppy with mainly downstrokes except on the chord changes.

D/F# Am
I've been on the lamb
G Em
Being hunted, something fierce
Am D/F#
They say time and tide don't wait for no man
Am
But I was just hoping
C/E
These storm filled skies will clear

As the C/E ends to go into the last chorus, it sounds quite nice to do a little run on the top E string from 3rd to 2nd to Open to lead into the opening Em of the chorus... If that makes sense :D

The lyrics are wrong in a couple places:

What if I did not love you?
C/E
Where WOULD THAT LEAVE ME
Em7
WOULD I wander through the avenues
C/E
Under a pall of misery

And also:

I've been on the LAM
G Em
Being hunted, something fierce
Am D/F#
They say time and tide IT WAITS for no man
Am
But I was just hoping
C/E
These storm filled skies will clear
