...JUMP STURDY... by Dr. John
-----------------............

*from 'Gris Gris' (1968)*

Chorus 1:

Dm                         F
 Jump Sturdy, Jump Sturdy, was her name;
    Bb7                        A7
She came out the swamps like a crazy fool.
G                          F
 Jump Sturdy, Jump Sturdy, was her name;
    Bb7                        A7    Dm
She came out the swamps like a crazy fool.

Dm                         F
 Jump Sturdy, Jump Sturdy, was her name;
    Bb7                        A7
She came out the swamps like a crazy fool.
G                          F
 Jump Sturdy, Jump Sturdy, was her name;
    Bb7                        A7    Dm
She came out the swamps like a crazy fool.

Verse 1:

Am  Dm              Am      Dm                  Am
     People say she used to dance with the fish,
Dm                   Am      Dm             Am
 Some people say she juggled fire in a dish.
Dm          Am     Dm            Am
 Clear days on the Bayou St John,
Dm                        Am       Dm               Am
 She raised her hands and caused e-lectrical storms.

Bridge 1:

Dm                     F     Bb7                  A7
 She was a treacherous lady; she never meant much harm.
G                            F
 One day she ducked past the station house;
    E7                   A7
She turned on the fire a-larm.

Verse 2:

Dm               Am              Dm          Am
 Somehow she got tangled up with Queen Julia Jackson,
Dm              Am           Dm            Am
 Down on Melba, meeting near Rattle Street.
Dm                   Am        Dm
 Queen Julia Jackson dropped a zozola brick,
    Dm               Am       Dm              Am
And Jump Sturdy died with her soul, in defeat.

Chorus 2:

Dm                         F
 Jump Sturdy, Jump Sturdy, was her name;
    Bb7                        A7
She came out the swamps like a crazy fool.
G                          F
 Jump Sturdy, Jump Sturdy, was her name;
    Bb7                        A7    Dm
She came out the swamps like a crazy fool.

Dm                         F
 Jump Sturdy, Jump Sturdy, was her name;
    Bb7                        A7
She came out the swamps like a crazy fool.
G                          F
 Jump Sturdy, Jump Sturdy, was her name;
    Bb7                        A7    Dm
She came out the swamps like a crazy fool.

Coda:

Dm              F              Bb7        A7
 Jump Sturdy... Jump Sturdy... was her... name.

I am thrilled to see this Dr. John Classic on here! For the record though, the lyric displayed here that says "melba meeting near rattle street" is "down on Melpomine and Erato St." which is an intersection in Central City New Orleans. Keep the Dr. John comin!
